The famous picture that is usually shown is the picture in 1956 when passengers returned to the bus. They wanted to take a picture of Mrs Parks and they just about had to beg her to come to take that picture because her mother was ill. And she did not want to leave her mother. But they, of course, you know, pleaded with her. And she said that she would do it. And when she got to the bus and got on the bus, guess who the bus driver was? None other than James Blake. Neither acknowledge the other. She went and sat down and you see a white man sitting behind her in that picture. That was the Look magazine reporter. However, when she got back on the bus after the 381 day bus boycott, she was sitting behind the driver, which was on the left side. So people tend to think that that was the place where she was arrested. And in actuality, it was not. It was the opposite side of the bus.

The picture of her where she is being fingerprinted. That was where all of the so called "dissidents" of the boycott. These were the people that put the buses out of business so to speak. They were supposed to be arrested. And led by Dr King and Dr Abernathy they went down to the police station to be arrested. And just as they prepared for any march or protest, as they called it at that time, they were dressed in their Sunday best with their hats and gloves (it was appropriate for ladies at that time to wear hats and gloves), and their stockings and their Sunday shoes. And so everyone dressed up to go and get arrested. I think there's a picture of Dr. King and Dr. Abernathy being arrested at that same time. But there were over 120 people that were being arrested, supposedly for putting the buses out of business. They did not consider it an injustice when they did not treat the passengers fairly. But they certainly thought it was an injustice that they should be be put out of business, for the people no longer wanting to use that service, to be mistreated.
